Projects

The Portuguese Ministry of Health Shared Services (SPMS - Serviços Partilhados do Ministério da Saúde), through its area of expertise in Semantic Interoperability, has several ongoing projects in the area of standardization of clinical records made in Portuguese territory .

Semantic Interoperability means the capacity that different computers, or operative systems, have to exchange data between each other so that the sent message and its meaning are the same.

The bigger ambiguity in the register of clinical information can lead to clinical errors and jeopardizing the lives of citizens. 

The works in progress cover various areas involved in patient care providing, the aim is to improve the consistency of medical records made in Portugal , implementing best practices to improve the delivery of health care.

Besides the creation and adoption of standard language for medical records, is also intended to enhance the adoption of terminology Standard International , which also allow the sharing of cross-border information.
